Learning ZBrush #010 - Alpha Mask with DragRect

Pretty simple this week. the Heading says it all!

  • Created and 'A' Alpha Mask in Photoshop.
  • Used the Drag Rect tool with the 'A' Mask imported.
  • Dragged it on to a high poly sphere.

Learning ZBrush #009 - Live Boolean

Just playing with the Live Boolean Tool this week.
  • Created the negative object from an IMM brush.
  • Put it into it's own Subtool by using the Subtool's Split-Split Masked Points
  • Clicked the negative shape icon in the Subtool layer.
  • Selected the "Live Boolean" button.
  • Once position was established... under Subltool-Boolean- click "Make Boolean Mesh" to make permanent.

Learning ZBrush #008 - Shadow Box and Lathe Curve Brush

  • Made the Square frame one side at a time.
  • Made the profile with Shadow Box at a low resolution (128 res)
  • After Shadow Box, I grouped (CTRL W) all the important sides.
  • Went to Deformations and used "Polish By Groups" with the radial button filled in.
  • Used Mirror and Weld several times to lengthen and individual side.
  • Then Mirror and Weld to get the 4 sides.
  • Used the Lathe Curve Brush to get the profile of the 4 corner elements. With the adjustment under Brush-Modifiers-Brush Modifier set to 4.

Learning ZBrush #7 Masking Out Shapes

Here's another Chinese Frame with a slightly different process.

  • I divided a 3D panel several times.
  • Masked out the silhouette.
  • Changed (ctrl W) the polygroup to separate the objects from one another.
  • Isolated the visibility of the shape I wanted.
  • Delete Hidden.
  • Had fun experimenting with Panel Loop.
  • Added a background plan, just 'cuz.

Learning ZBrush #6 ZModeler and Panel Loop

This is a Chinese themes symbol frame. I used the ZModeler to extrude out the initial shapes. then Mirror Welded on the X axis and again on the Y. After Lasso Selecting the flat front surface I Panel Looped the shape to have a slight bevel.

Learning ZBrush #5 Crease and Edge Loop

Started with a super low poly cylinder and played around with the Slice Curve Tool to create edges. The Crease to define sharper areas and Edge Loop to bevel/extrude polygons. I subdivided a few times just to get a polished object to post.

Learning ZBrush #003 - IMM Brush and ZModeler

I created a frame that could be possibly used in a Graphic Gaming Symbol, using an Insert Mesh Brush for the Starts and the ZModeler to extrude and bevel the border.

Learning ZBrush #002 - IMM Brush

I Panel Looped a filigree mask then turned it into an Insert Mesh Brush. Next I'd like to get this process to the point where I can created frame borders for symbols and bezels in my games.
